DeSantis Warns of ‘Culture of Losing’

Decrying a Republican “culture of losing,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) sought Saturday to weaken Donald Trump’s grip on the GOP as tornado warnings interrupted a collision of leading presidential prospects in battleground Iowa, the AP reports.

Said DeSantis: “Governing is not about entertaining. Governing is not about building a brand or talking on social media and virtue signaling. It’s ultimately about winning and producing results.”

If he can get that message across to the big money, he'll make this a real contest.

Trying to screw Disney is the opposite of winning. As Iger said recently, "Does Florida want our taxes or not? Do they want us to create jobs or not?" BTW, Disney is the biggest taxpayer in the state. They paid 1.1 billion in state taxes last year. They single-handedly built the tourism industry in that area. They could easily not spend more money to expand (they have plans, but can certainly scrap them), reducing revenue for Florida. Now that is what losing is all about.

I hope Ron's chickens all come home to roost, but so far they have not.  He continues to get whatever he wants from the legislature and the state gets redder every day.

They will. Disney can screw them over big time.

Probably so. As I said in another thread, there's something going on around the corner the media aren't seeing. Take a look, Mr. Jones.

There are times when the Disney-DeStalin battle makes me imagine a game between Columbia and Alabama. Nick Saban will play his starters one quarter, and he'll still win 67-14.

Thou shalt not mess with The Mouse.

Does it get redder every day? Or will the people have had enough? Hmm and hmm. Once again, what happens when the representatives in a representative republic don't represent the people who elect them?

They haven't had enough - yet.  But DeSantis has not gone completely nuts before this year.  The next elections will show whether or not he's gone too far.

My guess at the moment - it will be closer but DeSantis will still win and still have an unstoppable margin in the statehouse.  You have to remember that FL has gotten a lot of new people in the state, most of whom are older and more conservative than the national norm.  Think Texas, not a swing state.

I want to be sure I'm clear on this. Your talking about DeSantis winning another term as Governor of Florida, yes?

Correct.  DeSantis will get the 1-2 in a presidential election - 1, the Trumpers will never vote for him, 2 - he's a fascist.  Florida used to be a reflection of the country as a whole but it's swung WAY right lately.  His assaults on everybody who isn't a protestant, white, straight male would doom him in a national election.
