Is anyone going to big Shinnecock Powwow for the Labor Day weekend?
I will be there from Friday until Sunday. Maybe we can meet up?

:)

I haven't been out to that powwow since the early seventies. I remember LanceJr and Ed Gumbs ( I think I got their names right after all this time) when they were just little kids, preteens actually. I hear they're all big and grown up and etc.

Let me know if you go and if you have fun, it's this weekend I think, labor Day......

... As a matter of fact the Gumbs grew up with my dad and uncle. They all were hanging buddies back in their teen years. My uncle now tells me how it was for them growing up as "black indians" back in the days....I have heard some very interesting stories from our elders I must say...

Osiyo, Smilingwater...

What the rest of us don't know hinders our efforts to resolve this
'race' thing via the First Nations peoples...

Many claim it isn't an issue or problem among their people...

So I'd like to read/hear your folks' side of the story...

Please do consider this...

Peace...

Wow!

My sister and I have just returned from the Shinnecock Powwow and I must say, that this has been the best I have been to in a very long time. It 100 percent beats any of the Schmetizuns' I have been to.
It has the feel of the old time powwows of the east but has encompassed the wonderful qualities of our eastern tribes. I didn't see any trouble or racist issues. All of the regalia were beautiful and the dancers were all great and the food was WONDERFUL.
They had Lobsters, Ribs, Chicken, Frybread, Cornbreads, soups, chowders, clams, of course the indian tacos....oh, my the list just goes on and on. All of the vendors had great works of art, jewelry and other native pieces as usual ... I could go on longer but I am sure that most of you get the idea that we had a wonderful time!
This powwow will most definitely be my big powwow outing EVERY YEAR from now on in place of Schemtizun.

:)

So that I haven't and don't leave you with the wrong impression of
me:

Up until now, this has been more or less a social outlet and
forum for folks who don't bring up their politics...

Instead?

I'm one of the politicals of this website...

But out of respect for what others were/are into I've seldom brought
up matters which involve native or mainstream issues or problems...

Until now...

Poster, just where have you all been hiding, i. e., since for
quite some time some of us have gone to the other indigenous
folk to seek answers which folk like yourselves probably can
easily answer for us...

And for me...

My point?

While I admit I'm (sometimes) an agitator, I'm no troublemaker...

There is no 'hidden agenda'...

What you see is what you get...

Having said all of that...

Yeah, I can kinda sorta understand the gripes of the traditionals
from the rezzes of the West, i. e., who wonder just how much
'native' is in the midst who otherwise identify themselves as
'black'...

But, perhaps, they just don't familiar with folks who are a little
bit of both...

So that other set of past hassles isn't just a clash between
west and east, but rather--people different from each other in
terms of history, traditions, different past or present dealings
with non-natives, etc.

At the time white settlers came into contact with your indigneous
forebears relations were pretty friendly and cordial...

That was seldom true for the tribes of the West...

So do try harder to learn/know/understand why they may feel and
think a tad bit differently about many things and for some
easy to recognize reasons...

And let us help to end this stupid and thoughtless bickering
between our various peoples young folk...

Ok?

Ok!

On a (much) lighter note:

Pictures, pictures...

Regardless: Good luck and best wishes...

Take care...

Peace...

Hmmmm, now why would you think that I would have the wrong impression of you? Were you trying to agitate? That's ok CTJ. It's really ok;
you don't come across as an agitator... to me that is.

peace to you as well.
:)

Osiyo, Smilingwater...

Yeah, it's like that, and that's the way it is...

The Delphiforums BLACK INDIANS site is what it is...

And what it ain't...

That is?

Too many folk have come here expecting somebody else to have
'all of the answers'...

Few felt/thought a need to answer those questions themselves...

Ditto that some who we expected to split when they felt or thought
that they had nothing in common with us...

Most simply wish and hope to be allowed to identify themselves
solely and exclusive as 'indigenous'...

Only a handful of us feel or think a need to go into the particulars?

As to my 'admission'?

I just felt and thought a need to be upfront about who I am...

For the sake of long time and new posters...

For the sake of letting folks like myself know why I only go so
far via presenting my (political) perspective...

As a people we're solely lacking as far as people truly honoring
and respecting where we're coming from...

I simply practice what I preach...

More about me?

Contact me directly...

Use the board private message thingee...

Or: ctj527@hotmail.com

And, yeah, I say what I mean, I mean what I say...

So again: Where folk like you been hiding all of this time?

But glad that you finally did and have showed up...

(Smile)...

Later...

Peace...
