Great piece!  The man behind the name and his namesake.  Many pics & videos as well as a great story.

THE NAMESAKE: FRANKEL

The colt was of royal pedigree, born on February 11, 2008 and it must have struck Prince Abdullah that the bay son of Galileo was a fitting vessel to carry the spirit of one whose accomplishments celebrated the thoroughbred and the sport.

From the first moment he set foot on the turf as a 2 year-old juvenile, Robert Frankel’s namesake would demonstrate how a legend becomes.

Frankel leads Champions entry

Superstar could be making final track appearance

Frankel is one of 46 entries in the Qipco Champions Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot on October 20 in what is expected to be his last appearance on a racetrack.

Sir Henry Cecil's unbeaten superstar is due to step up to 10 furlongs for his next race at York in the Juddmonte International later this month after having achieved all that is possible over a mile.
