Who knew?? :)

@ScottTVG The winner of the 1959 Barbara Fritchie was Tinkalero, ridden by some unknown jock who never amounted to much later...Art Sherman!

Wow - that's a pretty cool little footnote in Art's career!

Jamie Ness to start serving a 100 day suspension from 2014. They really need to process these suspensions in a more timely manner!

Just catching up on this sad news - been so busy.  A very talented rider who lost his battle.  I do wish they would allow jockeys to have a higher weight as they do in England as I have heard from a few jockeys that they started to use alcohol and drugs to deal with the deprivation and often hunger they feel from having to follow a pretty restrictive diet for weight control. Once they've resorted to this coping tool, it becomes very hard to break the cycle of addiction because they still can't follow the admonition that's pretty central to many recovery plans: HALT - meaning never get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired.  Jockeys careers put them in the red zone for three out of four of those criteria, and when they're commuting a lot via airplanes, etc., Lonely can also be added into the mix.  Jocks can have a pretty tough life, even the most successful.

Gomez's family is in my prayers as addiction claims lots of victims beyond just the addict.

I agree with you, that we need to do this faster, but here is the bigger problem as testing gets tighter.
