I am sharing the below face book post from FOB Jamie Gillispie. As she does each and every year, she is once again providing us the opportunity to honor Barbaro with roses at his Churchill Downs Memorial on his birthday, 29 April.
This will be the 20th anniversary of his birthday and, hopefully, we can provide an impactful tribute - both with flowers AND the accompanying donations to rescues and research in his honor.
*******************************************************
Dear FOB's.......I can begin taking rose orders today. The price per stem will be the usual $5. This is Barbaro's 20th Birthday! While I am still working out the details for his arrangements, he will have a big birthday arrangement accompanied by a big birthday card that will be signed with your names.
There will be an all white bouquet for our Heavenly FOB's with a card with all of their names. The Derby Champions will have their single red and single white roses small bouquets and of course the eternal Eight Belles will get her special arrangement.
Regarding tags, the birthday card will be the main tag. It will be large so it can contain your messages to Barbaro. I will do some smaller arrangements with smaller tags for your other brief messages. I don't have enough help to write out lots of tags and then tag individual roses.
As far as polishing, I will be checking with The Derby Museum about polishing Barbaro. I don't know if this will happen or not. I hope it does. I will keep you posted. Last year, there was a new Head of Security and he told us we couldn't be up on the base of the statue. He never came back after asking him to check with The Derby Museum so we did a brief rinsing and buffing off.
The proceeds will be divided as usual among the following 4…
1. Our Mims Our Mims Retirement Haven
2. One Horse At A Time
3. The Laminitis Fund
4. The Barbaro Fund.
There are 4 ways to pay.
1. Paypal..........if you use the friends and family option, no fees will be taken out. My paypal address is:
lilroy@btes.tv
2. Snail Mail

4. Zelle. My email to pay via Zelle is jgfaithheart2@gmail.com
Please let me know if you have any questions! As always, it's a privilege to honor The 2006 Kentucky Derby Champion.

Bump if bump is necessary. I know the economy sucks but please, if you can, contact Jamie to help honor Barbaro. Let your message be on the card placed at his Memorial. We've been together in Barbaro's house since 2006. Many of us are still active in efforts to honor the courage, excellence, and heartfelt affection and admiration we came to hold for him. This April 29th would have been his 20th birthday. Aside from making me feel incredibly old, it marks a special milestone in our journey with Barbaro. Please take this opportunity to make his 20th a remarkable display for all to see.
BARBARO IS THE CHAMPION. ALWAYS. FOREVER. I BELIEVE

Happy Birthday Barbaro. Twenty years ago La Ville Rouge gave us all an amazing gift and we were blessed to have you for awhile. Such a short time here on earth, but you blazed a phenomenal path which we all followed. Still running in the Lord's meadows....

For those not on facebook, here is photo of the FOB floral tribute. Small bouquets were left at other tribute markers at Churchill Downs - Eight Belles being one of them.
