Seriously!
The Texas Animal Health Commission Feb. 19 said it has confirmed equine herpesvirus in two horses in El Paso County. Sam Houston taking precautions but not enough IMHO
Due to the serious nature of the recent outbreak of the neurological strain of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1), the following entry policy will be implemented at Sam Houston Race Park, effective March 6, 2016 and until further notice: No horses (including pony horses) will be permitted to enter the grounds of Sam Houston Race Park if they are coming from a county with a facility or race track that is under quarantine for the EHV-1 Equine Herpesvirus, or if they are coming from a county adjacent to a county where quarantine has been issued.

Payson Park general manager Mary Gallagher said the 21-day quarantine begins today, March 1, for all horses on the grounds.

Today, a horse in another barn was diagnosed with EHV1. As a precautionary measure, all horses from Payson are under quarantine for 21 days. Although frustrating, we just have to patiently wait for the hold to be over.
That being said, I don't think there is any better place for all the horses to be quarantined than Payson Park with the immense paddock space and top class veterinarians and other horsemen. All we can do now is wait until we are allowed to run again. We will keep you updated with any new developments.

The Thoroughbred suffering from equine herpesvirus that led to a 21-day quarantine at Payson Park Thoroughbred Training Center in Indiantown, Fla., has necessitated a similar quarantine in Virginia. Florida state veterinary officials determined the horse who tested positive for equine herpesvirus type 1 Feb.
