4-Year-Old Dies After Anti-Vaxxers Tell His Mom Not To Treat His Flu

A four-year-old boy has died of the flu after anti-vaxxers encouraged his mom not to give him Tamiflu, an antiviral medication that was prescribed by a doctor, because they preferred “natural cures” instead.

The mother was reportedly a member of “Stop Mandatory Vaccination,” a massive anti-vax group known for spreading false information about autism and government conspiracies. She asked the group for help and that’s where the problem took shape.

The child had not been diagnosed yet, but he was running a fever and had a seizure, the mother wrote. She added that two of her four children had been diagnosed with the flu and that the doctor had prescribed the antiviral Tamiflu for everyone in the household.

The mother also wrote that the “natural cures” she was treating all four of her children with — including peppermint oil, Vitamin C and lavender — were not working and asked the group for more advice. The advice that came in the comments included breastmilk, thyme and elderberry, none of which are medically recommended treatments for the flu.

There is NO excuse for this rank stupidity.  The parents had a duty and they failed because they chose to be stupid.  Lock them up.

It's gross negligence, but they are already punished sufficiently, I believe. And deterrence has no effect on stupidity..

That may be true but the complete arrogance of these folks demands a complete and thorough kick in the head from time to time to wake them up to reality.

I agree that mom is grieving but if she is/was charged and kicked while down, the disgust in the societal reactions might of themselves create an educational moment.

Anti-vaxxers are intentionally ignorant - the facts are out there but they choose to ignore it to rely on ridiculous conspiracy theories. Intentional ignorance is not easily cured but I think it can be done.  I also think something has to be done to punish these people.  They made the conscious choice to withhold legitimate medical treatment.

Sadly, the death of their child is not likely to change their beliefs or their position. The cult (that's not an inaccurate assessment, IMO) will come up with some idiotic explanation for why the child died, and they'll go along with it. It's likely they will face a charge of negligence or child endangerment.

She should be charged with murder resulting from willful negligence and 'fixed' so that she can't breed again.
