Plato's Ancient 'Democracy' does not apply in the third world with authoritarian laws- we all know that pretty well, people only try on perpetual effort...
Historians like to quote A. N. Whitehead who said:
"The safest general characterization of the European philosophical
tradition is that it consists of a series of footnotes to Plato."
When CITIZENS actually need to talk about democracy; the rule of law is to accept those that they might have abhorrence and they should be able to criticize them without creating a war to reverse opposed and conflicting ideas.
Just my two 'pennies' worth of thought
Roger Scruton will have a very hard time to find anyone in the Middle East thinking along his peaceful train of thought.
We do know that most of the citizens go by emotional and choleric outburst, revengeful mentality and act to these condition with crushing and violent deeds.
More warmongers from the around the world should learn something from Roger Scruton, this guy lays-out social issues so easily to understand!!
Roger Scruton is the master of thoughts.
There's nothing universal within the Middle East and its vicinity within their religious conviction with brings up a lot of conflicts and offensive behaviours.
Unfortunately banning video documentaries happens all the time in North American sites, it absolutely intimidates people away and often people don't bother to say anything anymore...
Roger Scruton also gave us a preview what will happen, what we see now, but did anyone listen?
Roger Scruton's quotations to remember.
"It is not enough to be nice; you have to be good. We are attracted by nice people; but only on the assumption that their niceness is a sign of goodness."
