WASHINGTON (AP) - Nearly 20 years after invading Afghanistan to oust the Taliban and hunt down al-Qaida, the U.S. military has vacated its biggest airfield in the country, advancing a final withdrawal that the Pentagon on Friday said will be completed by the end of August.

You know, back in 1980, when this all began, we tried to stop it. Not just here in Iowa, but all over the USA.
Draft Registration was brought back to fight the War in Afghanistan.
Here in Iowa, we said, "no".
You'd be amazed at how many forums I've been kicked out of here on Delphi just for saying, "no" to War and "no" to the draft over the last couple of decades. (Some folks even talk about it here in this forum today.) It didn't matter whether they were "conservative" forums or "liberal" forums. No dissent was allowed here at Delphi when it comes to War, except for a tiny handfull of forums.
It will be interesting to see what those same folks say now about accepting the rather predictable flood of refugees created by 40 years of War.
President Jimmy Carter delivered his State of the Union address to the joint session of Congress. Topics included the Iran hostage situation, the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and energy independence.
