I don't doubt it.
I remember back when Steve King got elected to congress 18 years ago in 2002, and first planted a Confederate flag on his desk.
He got a law passed that made English the official language of Iowa, and immediately my wife was being harassed by coworkers at work for speaking Spanish to coworkers and students.
She works as a cook here at the university, and students taking Spanish classes liked to exchange greetings with her as they passed thru the line for lunch and dinner, to practice their studies.
Antiintellectualknownothingism as its finest!
