My daughters and friends were camping in the BWCA from 8/15-8/23. They could see the flames in the sky at night from a distance. When the rangers canoed in to tell them to get out (no hurry, the next morning would be ok), M told the DNR people that the flame at night looked like the "Eye of Sauron", and they all laughed sadly.

Absolutely could not believe the unpreparedness of southerners for a bit of cold. Of course the energy grid breakdown didn't help, but living in the state of Minnesota, which can have raging blizzards and 20 degrees below or more Fahrenheit, we understand already that weather is unpredictable.
Climate change is going to be a roller coaster, be prepared.
