When you get to his age, you're on a downhill slope and can expect to 'go' at any time. It isn't a tragedy, just what happens to us all.

My good friend here at the Home has just died aged 99. He has had the "last laugh" as he has donated his body to medical research and will livve on forever in the medical journals

Of course we can and I do. My body is also destined for medical research or transplants, if there's anything useful left after I've had full use of it.  Whatever remains after that will be cremated and will fertilise the garden of remembrance at the 'crem'.
