We can still wish him well though! My good friend here at the Home has just died aged 99. He has had the "last laugh" as he has donated his body to medical research and will livve on forever in the medical journals

Of course we can and I do. My body is also destined for medical research or transplants, if there's anything useful left after I've had full use of it.  Whatever remains after that will be cremated and will fertilise the garden of remembrance at the 'crem'.

"UK Home Secretary Priti Patel, the Minister in charge of policing, reportedly orders an independent inquiry after questions are left unanswered in an initial police report."

The problem is that once the independent inquiry is announced the police cannot defend themselves. You just hear one side of the story in the media.

The standard London demo is usually disrupted by people who are only there to attack the police.  The vigil on Clapham Common was peaceful and respectful until, in the evening, it was infiltrated by groups with different agendas.

I think the findings of an independent investigation will be better accepted by society in general, than an in-house police inquiry.

It's important to find out what happened but I suspect this is a waste of money. The same thing happens at other demos in London. Groups move in who want to attack the police. Some of the same young women were at a Feminist vigil in Parliament Square the following night. Their main screamed message had nothing to do with Sarah Everard's murder. It was "Fuck the Police". The police were present but ignored the provocation as they're trained to do.

Personally I'd have 'kettled' the lot of them, taken names and addresses and handed out £200 fines for deliberately breaking covid regulations.
