JERUSALEM (AP) - Palestinian worshippers clashed with Israeli police late Friday at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, a major holy site sacred to Muslims and Jews, in an escalation of weeks of violence in Jerusalem that has reverberated across the region...Read more from AP NEWS
Despite everything he is or is not he is still very popular and whilst I do not like his tactics over the last 3 - 4 years I have to say he will be remembered for putting this very tiny (very) state on the Map .
For all the wrong reasons!
The Palestinian Authority were to have an election (the 1st in about 15 years) the entire leadership of the PA has been in charge with a long expired mandate they have in reality no support from the people .
Israel has refused to allow the PA to canvas in Jerusalem (it is complex it is political and IMO we should have allowed it) because there is now to be NO ELECTION with the PA blaming Israel the result has been that the Ramadan crowds on the Mosque area have clashed with the police , these clashes are very predictable and cyclic .
Any election that may yet transpire will see the entire leadership sent home and that is possibly the root of all this trouble
This is a matter for Israel to deal with in a democratic manner ,our democracy allows the re election of a person multiple times the same as in the UK but not the same in the US .
Other than his Criminal charges I believe the history of Israel will rank BB as one of the greats despite all his failings
The postponement of legal proceedings could lower tensions, however some are warning a nationalist Israeli parade could further inflame violence.Read more from www.abc.net.au
JERUSALEM (AP) - When Samira Dajani's family moved into their first real home in 1956 after years as refugees, her father planted trees in the garden, naming them for each of his six children. Today, two towering pines named for Mousa and Daoud stand watch over the entrance to the garden where they all played as children...Read more from AP NEWS
JERUSALEM (AP) - At least 50 Palestinians were hospitalized after being injured in clashes with Israeli police at a flashpoint Jerusalem holy site, Palestinian medics said. Police fired tear gas and stun grenade canisters some of them landing in the Al-Aqsa Mosqe, Islam's third holiest site...Read more from AP NEWS
There is an area in Jerusalem where Palestinians are living which maybe (i dont know) actually owned by Jews (I dont know ) but the case has gone from court to court and is now with the Supreme Court who are delaying their verdict , it is FEASIBLE the Palestinians despite being their for decades maybe no more than squatters (i DONT KNOW!)
This is coming on top of the Election in the PA which wont now happen , the announcement of several thousand new homes in the WB and very stringent controls in East Jerusalem - the trouble makers are the youngsters who get fired up and get heroically hit with rubber bullets etc
Add to this brew a Government teetering on removal and a PM who is ready to do anything at all to remain in power and out of the grasp of the courts to face charges , his allies are the ultra right wingers and the ultra orthodox who see life through a different prism than you or me
These events are going to occur more and more , the Jewish groups are using almost unlimited money to buy out land and property and to re establish total control of the city they are using US/UK / French law firms to ferret through everything .
For the Jews this is a return to their city for the Palestinians this is something in their nightmares they never saw
