Seeing Mt. Shasta with no snow has been a pretty somber reminder of global warming here on the west coast. While this is not the first time in history that Mt Shasta has appeared bare, its going to happen with more frequency now due to rising temperatures, fewer freezing temperatures, and reduced rain fall.

My daughters and friends were camping in the BWCA from 8/15-8/23. They could see the flames in the sky at night from a distance. When the rangers canoed in to tell them to get out (no hurry, the next morning would be ok), M told the DNR people that the flame at night looked like the "Eye of Sauron", and they all laughed sadly.
