Jenifer (Zarknorph) said: Note that Pol Pot was actually a US agent and remained that way for at least 12 years after his regime had fallen!   Wait... WHAT?!!

Some of the story can be found here - I know Ozzie journalists are hated these days but you might appreciate - https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/politics/2014/04/how-thatcher-gave-pol-pot-hand

And the Wacky agrees with me, careful to smear the only "necessary" and "successful" regime change in history, that of Vietnam in Cambodia:

In December 1978, the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia, toppling Pol Pot's government in 1979. The Vietnamese installed a rival Marxist–Leninist faction opposed to Pol Pot and renamed the country as the People's Republic of Kampuchea. Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge retreated to a jungle base near the Thai border. Until 1993, they remained part of a coalition internationally recognized as Cambodia's rightful government. The Ta Mok faction placed Pol Pot under house arrest, where he died in April 1998. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pol_Pot

The only part I'm not entirely sure of is what happened in the last 5 years.

Clearly, he was not a hunted man - and indeed, nobody was ever hunted for the genocide.

As my Cambodian friend said "the only people to benefit from western intervention were the child-prostitute industry".

I think we can probably agree with her.

There is a story somewhere here in CoCo about the last Khmer Rouge war crimes trial.

Let me see if I can find it..

And you don't agree the entire effort was fraudulent, designed to hunt down and silence every Cambodian who might testify about the US bombing that brought Pol Pot to power?

I would suggest that the Iranian discussion has ever more relevance than a war 50 years ago in Asia which has no connection at all to the Global events unfolding.

What was - was and debating every syllable , comma and hyphen will not alter by one iota a thing , IRAN however is going to play into every living room around the Globe as it steadily heats up

you are quite wrong there. Any war, anywhere, this and last century's, are relevant in the present geopolitical situation. But it seems history is not your strong point.

I would disagree , the wars will be technically fought different on totally different terrains each with a different ideology.

Thankfully we will have you as a teacher phew

It seems your comprehension of a short sentence is as acute as your knowledge of history.
