The US supplied the Taliban with weapons to fight the Russians who ultimately gave up the ghost and the void was then filled by the US who were then fighting a group of people who knew every inch of their land , the Taliban intended to ensure the US would not have a victory.
With regards to casualties the Taliban I am sure have no interest in how many are killed or injured this is for them merely an aside

There's no solution.
The Taliban have won.
We can and should support the Gov in Kabul which is the only hope for people who have benefited from Western influences. The girls who have been schooled and have gone to universities abroad. The young women who haven't been forcibly married off. The gay people who have 'come out'. The musicians and cricketers who were declared un-Islamic by the Taliban when they were in charge some years back.
We should all make it easy for those who have helped NATO and are in fear of their lives to seek asylum in our countries.
The Taliban are utterly backward and repressive and only a shade less bad than ISIS.

They certainly played the long game and let the US take care of ISIS for them.
