Just sent to me, in the lead-up to the DSEi (which I won't be attending): I think someone posted a method of ensuring the images stay full-size instead of shrinking like this one - can anyone help?

Hi Tony, for fullsize images use ImgBB to upload pics from your computer to their own internet address:

https://imgbb.com/

One you've done that, you can share the full size image by sharing the link:

Or you can upload the link as an embeded image via forum software using the little photo section and uploading from the web, where you then paste your ImgBB link into:

Put them overbudget, overschedule and overweight?

I'd love to hear more.

Joking aside, CTAI ought to be working toward demonstrating a high burst RoF to leverage the high elevation capabilities of the 40CT for SHORAD. Feeding through the trunnion with a fixed feed system is a USP that other cannon installations can't match. Showing that it allows reliable feeding at any elevation and high cyclic rate would make 40CT a competitive choice for that role.

Defence forces that aren't thinking about SHORAD right now have no realistic future operational capacity and may as well be disbanded for cost savings. I guess you could keep the bands and a few ceremonial troops if that really mattered to you.

So the thing that bothers me about the 40 CTA cannon Is the feed through trunnion part. I have a feeling that this feature alone is going to make it a very hard sell.

It's rather unfortunate that they picked that instead of the other proven feed options for 40CTA just before unmanned turrets really started becoming outright necessary if you want to have an AFV that's both survivable and has a decent sized autocannon.

I wonder whether they can go back to some of the earlier ares feed methodologies and just how much re engineering that would take?

I suspect that if they ever want to sell any that's exactly what they're going to have to do, though I question the wisdom of even doing that at this late in the game!

Unfortunately for both the Brits and the french this cannon and it's round probably would have done ok if it had Actually gotten fielded two + decades ago but in 2021 all the built in growth potential has more than worn thin.

Anyone who does buy this gun now is buying a gun that's fundamentally at it's end of useful life because threats and configurations have moved on while it still hasn't even had enough rounds ran through it to really even be considered mature.

Bear with me while I work on this...

As usual, I can't get it to work. Me and IT have a longstanding hate-hate relationship...

Curious as to why you would think so, since many turrets feed the cannon through the trunnion, albeit with the rounds in a different orientation.

Manned turrets can go behind the trunnion and there are some, but not many, that feed in front. RWS tend to feed over the top of the trunnion, which still puts the feed axially in line with the trunnion.

What other feed options are those? The ARES 75mm concept does not look like a good fit for a turret with mo deck penetration.

The development time has been tortuous, I’ll agree. If you check the website only two natures are listed as being qualified

https://www.cta-international.com/the-40-ctas/

That said, it’s still a fairly powerful cannon compared to 30mm guns that people are still buying, and the short length behind the trunnions suits installations where projecting below the turret ring isn’t possible
