SPAAGs featuring 35 mm Oerlikons have been around for half a century, but the main users (especially Germany) seem to have phased them out. Poland takes a different view, and is developing a new one

Given the rapidly increasing problem of small recce/attack drones, the Oerlikon AHEAD system would seem to be just about ideal medicine, provided the sensor suite can pick them up.

Thoughts?

The single barreled versions look practical. The widely spaced barrels and large chassis seem excessive for shooting at drones.

SPAAG are getting a new lease of life as the drones become more widespread and a burst from a cannon can deal with targets. Also, new swarm decoys designed to overwhelm SAM systems is opening new gaps to fill ,SPAAG for the defense of SAMs systems

But anything sub 40mm is short-ranged, time for reemergence of 40-57mm cannon and even the 76mm as once built by Italians and now by chinese

It depends on UAV category. for less than 2.5kg (and their menace is anything but negligible), either rheinmetall or nammo in 40 HV seem to be quite balanced
