Good news. The Dutch National Military Museum at Soesterberg air base now owns a 7.9 mm Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 (FG42, first model with metal shoulder stock).  

This might not be sensational news, but the way it got there is, in my opinion. The FG42 was seized by Dutch police from a person who owned it illegaly. But instead of mindlessly throwing it into the next smelter, the historical importance of the weapon was recognized and it was handed over to the museum. Well done.
