The age thing to me is the oddest part to be sure. On the other hand, its not unprecedented, especially for a SF/CIA paramilitary type. There have been reports of a number of older (although more often in the 40-50yr old) foreign volunteers.
The famous case is Billy Waugh, who was 72 during the initial invasion of Afghanistan, and ended up participating in every war from Korea 1951 to Iraq 2003.

The tiny flir drone description is actually consistent with the Black Hornets sent to Ukraine. These have been around for a number of years.

'Fly into your eye without noticing' is conversational hyperbole, but they are extremely quiet compared to a normal civilian quadcopter:
Thanks to a generous benefactor for lending me a Flir Black Hornet to check out.
There are now civilian, 3D printed copies of the hornet, albeit much less capable in terms of FLIR.

The blog could be bullshit to be sure, but its a ton of effort going back months for a little read blog with no monetization. And if it was propaganda youd think they would omit the vietnam/old man aspect as that prompts quite a bit of skepticism?

A new development, Ukraine employing a wave of Suicide UAV boats.
Heres a compilation of videos of the attacks. At 2:30 it becomes really dramatic, as Russian heliocopters and (possibly naval gunfire?) attempts to intercept the boats.

'Boats' is generous, they're more like a surface torpedo in that they are quite small, but reportedly have up to a 500lb warhead.
I suspect we will be seeing more of these types of weapons proliferate both in Ukraine and future conflicts, as its a cheap, fairly low tech anti shipping weapon.
Autonomous versions could make for an effective 'smart mine' type of system for coastal defense.

And my favorite weapon system - the Buggy 'Buster - continues to make an appearance.

I think Navies would be foolish not to field them again. A very cheap counter measure given the cost of a modern warship

US navy does use the boat nets 'Port Security Barriers (PSB)' to protect against suicide speed boat attacks in some ports after the attack on USS Cole, These do not have underwater net, But could probably add a torpedo neet to the system with larger floats to carry the weight as underwater drones are probably next . Off all the drones underwater ones are the hardest to make work at usable range hence no DIY made projects so far , but for state actors not to big of a deal .

Objection, your Honor. Since the boat is being controlled remotely, there is no suicide.

Concur re naval gunfire. Especially at 3:32 there is what appears to be a cannon round.
gatnerd said:'Boats' is generous, they're more like a surface torpedo...
Indeed. Therefore, I propose a new acronym: ROST (Remotely Operated Surface Torpedo).

Germany restarting production of SMART 155's due to how well they work in Ukraine. Downside is production will take 5 years to restart. Plans to buy 10,000 more @ 81,000 euros a shot.
