Fragments are the main killer with an artillery projectile. That steel will turn into thousands of deadly fragments.

Mr. T (MrT4) said:Total number of troops in Ukraine is probably well over a Million, considering Ukraine has been drafting folks for 3 months.
Zelensky recently announced that the total number of forces stands at 700k or so. That is after three rounds of mobilizations and the fourth will likely be announced soon.
But I strongly suspect that this does not take into account the losses they have been sustaining.
The bigger issue for Ukraine though isn't going to be manpower but material. We already see them rely on civilian vehicles to move any equipment and troops around. What remains of their tank and artillery forces diminishes by the day. To say nothing of their air force which tends to get shot down whenever they manage to repair a plane back into working order and sortie out.

Reportedly those 'bomb casings' are off the shelf fishing products, possibly for deploying chum into the water.

Not really. At least not on this footage.
The BMP1 has a crew of 11. I was able to count 10 guys sitting on the vehicles plus the driver. So these are just fully crewed BMPs.
Because the vehicles has such bad ergonomics and is horribly cramped the crews prefer to ride on top if not in combat.

I rode inside the BMP2's and Czech clones couple of times and BMP2 its more of a 3+7 affair , Its cramped as fuck by today standarcs ergonomics are not that bad, Remember GI used to sit on top of M113 not because of space and ergonomics
