Yes but the natives broke the system Denel is broke, or just out of bankruptcy and it doesn't seem they will be a major player anytime soon altough South Africa has/had diverse offerings, from MRAPS to jets
Larger chamber will sooner or later be STANAG coded. Its the same with tank cannons chambers will grow even if the caliber doesnt.

If I was Rheinmetall/Nexter/Saab this migth be well worth working on in the light of the UA war

Other factor you have to consider Denel is chosen not just for their know how but primarily to reduce costs by offshoring R&D , and from what i understand funding was very limited and Rheinmetall was mostly interested in the development around standard guns and chambers.
By the way Denel has been firing 67+km shots on their G6 for long time , first over 60km shots in 1991 and in production since 2003 . ''The G6 is not restricted by the NATO accepted Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMoU) and has a larger chamber, packing more propellant charge accelerating the Assegai to the longest range possible.''

So is Fuchs A9 dead? BW buying Patria instead

Nope. No decision has been made.
Germany joined the CAVS program to evaluate is this is a suitable option. That is it.

At least the initial PATRIA X CAV has been touted as super affordable. But from what you mentioned in the past BW is looking for higher protection levels than initially offered with Patria XA300
Interesting the lack of interest in Pandur Evolution 6x6 which on paper offers everything in a more compact and lighter platform that is also air transportable in c130

They are looking for a lot more than what the CAV offers.

Air portability in a C130 is not part of the requirements. The Pandur is way too small. The BW doesn't need an APC, that is the Boxer, it needs an equipment carrier for all the different kits the Fuchs is currently carrying. There are more than 20 different kits. Some only in single digit numbers. The BW wants a replacement chassis to mount them on that is cheaper than Boxer but offers allmost everything the Boxer does.
The Fuchs A9 has been tailored to fit exactly to the BW requirements. Its just more expensive than the higher up thought their "cheap" Boxer replacement that is as capable would be. So they insist to checking other option. Its a typical clusterfuck that happens when politicians have good ideas.
Its just a waste of time IMHO. Once the Patria is modified to fit the requirements it will be abaout as expensive as Fuchs A9. Rheinmetall als has conciderable lobbying power. My money is on the BW getting nothing. It will be found out that they can not get what they want cheaper and there will be no funding. So they will just rule Patria out and nothing else will happen. At least not for the next decade or so.

On paper it looks like it could fit the role ,but looking at the dimension its probably smaller insider than either Fuchs 1A9 or Patria XM300
when you want more room but you have to fit into aircraft
