APKWS being further refined as a sorta low cost anti drone munition. Key seems to be detecting the drone in time, and having a laser designator that can lock onto the drone and track it.

Also of note in the twitter link is the mention of a newly developed proximity fuse for APKWS.

Overall I think that drone detection is the biggie. Either add that to the vehcile or add an x-band radar to the platoon or company.

Yes thats another big upgrade for the APKWS. It's becoming a pretty versatile bit of kit. What I like about the APKWS and 30x113mm Prox is that its multi roll, capable of both ground to ground anti infantry work as well as anti drone work.
We're seeing ground to ground use in Ukraine now, but the APKWS was afaik initially sent as part of 'anti drone' aid. Wonder if they had the Prox fuses or not?

Some supplementary info from a Apache driver on another forum in regards to APKWS that throws a bit of shade on the anti drone claims:

Sounds like a very capable system:

what is interesting here is that the article mentions that other NATO countries, including Germany, are also planning to buy this. I only question the decision to stick it on a wheeled platform.

The Danish Army is heavily wheeled, with only a small tracked force of tanks and IFVs. And their CV9035s can probably be tweaked to do CUAS without a new dedicated vehicle.

It looks pretty awesome; hell of a lot more sophisticated then the US SHORAD offering.
ROF is ~1200rpm, things a 30mm MG42.
In this video you can see it hosing a super fast burst, as well as demonstrating a future laser weapon ability.
The Skyranger 30 HEL is a hybrid solution designed to thwart the full range of future airborne threats. Here, the interplay of a 30mm automatic cannon, guide...
Really highlights how dinky our US Bushmaster Chainguns are by comparison.
With the 1200rpm rof, I wonder if it could stack enough APFSDS on top of eachother in a burst to chew through thicker armor?
