Milkor has released a new single shot launcher. Notably, it features a hydraulic buffer in the stock to reduce recoil in order to allow it to fire 40x51mm Medium Velocity grenades.

To my knowledge that makes this the first 40x51mm rated single shot launcher.

The launcher looks fairly bulky, but its promising that more development in 40x51 is happening. And this confirms that hydraulic buffers can be adapted for making 40x51mm safe to fire from single shot launchers, and not just the hefty 6-shot Milkor.

This one was also offered by FN Herstal as a 40x53 mm version.

The barrel looks unusually short, maybe 2 inches shorter than that of the M32A1.

Seems illogical to use higher velocity ammo, then reduce barrel length (and MV).

I always liked the High Impulse Weapon System and thought that the 40x51 version was a great idea. Maybe FN will revisit it sometime.
