What is the current status? I think they have been phased out, no? Is this sensible? ISTR that at leat the British Army did a couple bayonet assaults in Iraq?

AFAIK, the USMC still has bayonets and does bayonet training.

But, if/when the XM7 is fielded, I expect bayonets will be phased out since the XM7 has no bayonet mount.

Color me skeptical. Looks somewhat less than practical for bayonet fighting.
And adds more weight and bulk to a rifle that is already too heavy and bulky.
