It looks to me like an stop-gap. Something that can be quickly procured against a menace that has been materialized

Have you paying attention on what both Armenian and Azeries are doing with RPAs at Artsaj right now?

Good grief; that setup is less effective then the 40 year old Soviet Tunguska:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2K22_Tunguska

8x AA missiles with 18km range + 2x30mm AC with w/ ~4000rpm.

The Stinger has a range of only 4km, the Hellfire is a surface to surface missile, and the 30mm has a ROF of 250rpm.

I just hope the Radar is good...

Desperate times desperate measures. It does have a very Dad's Army feel though. And Tunguska is a lovely missile system, it can kill aircraft at 12 km and pick apaches out of the treetops.

It is being replaced by two separate vehicles though.

there is also the addition of the smaller missiles to the Pantsir system to kill drones.

Amazing what you can do when you haven't neglected AA defence for 30 years.

Found a good pic showing the SHORADs kit:

Looks like its the 30x113mm cannon.

And a M240 is also added; something like a MG3 w/ 1200rpm would have seemed a better option.

Still no idea why the Hellfires are there.

I would think that over MANPADS limit the fighters would to what they are supposed to do: shootdown flying things. And such flying things would be cat. III or IV UAVs, both big enough and slow flying machines perfect for practice targets

I would be more worried for cat I UAVs, small, low-fly things

Absolutely; they should be expecting things like the Orbiter 1K, not just targets like the Predator.

And it should have a lot more stingers; something like an APKWS type launcher that holds 7-12 on each side, so that it can deal with swarms of drones.

The 4 shot box is a 1989 throwback that holds 4x individual stinger missile launcher tubers in a box, which is super space inefficient.

In terms of the cannon, I wonder it its manually aimed with a joystick, or whether it automatically locks on and tracks targets like CIWS?

I really think that there is some kind of mature FCS agains flying targets, optic-based and computer augmented.

Besides, yes, I thought the same: they need a lot of shoots if a shitstorm begin. And an APWKS-II derivative would be more than enough for shooting down Cat I UAV... although they have to take care about backslash.

Rheinmetall 40mm airburst system would be even more useful than M230L as point defense. And maybe, just maybe, Hellfire can reach cat II UAV

I have doubts that Stinger is of much use against smaller drones with electric motors or small gasoline engines.

And that 30mm cannon is low-velocity piece. lacking range for anti air work.

The Hellfires are for AFVs and helicopters.

Just found a good video of the Hellfires being used against large (Predaorish) drones:
