Wow, is there a canister load? Do you have the specs? I always wondered how a .50 BMG canister load would have performed.

One of the really tedious things about this forum is the need for americans to argue in bad faith. The M30 is a howitzer and it was used to defend Afghan bases with cannister, so either you were ignorant and too lazy to look it up or did know and decided that you would ignore the thread history to be a disingenuous Stan-like shitstain.

Obviously a proper vehicle mounted Autocannon is far superior.

Of course, but you have the Serbian contraption fulfilling the role so I proposed a couple more conventional alternatives.

And here are the  DIY 12.7 + 14.5mm AMR's used by the Kurds against ISIS - apparently to great effect. So there seems to be some use for these types of AMR's on the modern battlefield, at least in these sort of irregular conflicts.

Thanks to correspondent Ed Nash (he gave me permission to use his name after I had recorded the video), I have a number of really interesting photos and video clips of YPG (Kurdish) locally-produced anti-materiel rifles. Specifically, the Zagros 12.7mm rifle and the Ser Portative 14.5mm rifle. Both are made on a small serial production scale by the YPG using barrels from DShK and KPV machine guns. Tubular receivers and bolts are fitted to them, making effective single-shot rifles. These photos are from the fall of 2015 and the summer of 2016.

I am told that both types of gun were reliable and effective, and used substantially in combat against ISIS/Daesh, with their necessity decreasing after the YPG began receiving more air support from United States forces. These were not sniping rifles so much as anti-material rifle, used against walls, light armored vehicles (including VBIEDs), and other sorts of cover.

And some from Yemen:

I think its a mistake to assume everyone has a complete knowledge of every weapon ever made, and will know what a M30 is without any further explanation, especially when accompanied by a photo of autocannon.

Googling 'M30 Canister' was not revealing, hence the honest question.

More to the point, the goal of the forum should be to share knowledge and educate people, especially anyone reading the forum who is not a member. As such we should always strive to share links, photos, or more information beyond simply drive by comments when introducing a new concept or weapon. That way someone without any background could read a given thread and get a solid overview of the topic.

Honestly, i think this is made for some export customer out of the ME, there is no practice of antimaterial sniping in ex Yugoslav wars but lots of practice in sniping including 12.7mm

Although Serbia is not wealthy its armament industry is well developed.

the spring mounted optic is not for shooters protection but rather for scope protection so that it doesn't fall apart after few shots.

I think the top op rod works the action via short stroke piston  , i do not think the front part has anthing to do with cycling the weapon but its more of a recoil dampening system that opens up once the gas pressure in the suppresor drops

This is the only  forum in which I've ever seen the "You are arguing in bad faith!" complaint, which has only been made by a few members who are somewhat less than rational.

Insulting a fellow member by calling him a "shitstain" would seem to meet one of the "bad faith" definitions on the web.  to argue in bad faith - Google Search

And speaking of being ignorant, do you know what are the search results from googling "M30" ?  m30 - Google Search

As for ignoring the thread history, until your comment above, there had not been a single post in this thread about howitzers.

I suggest looking at Serbian combat experience for possible reasons. Perhaps there have been lots of materiel targets in recent Serb wars?

IIRC One of the reasons for the Croatians to develop this 20mm beauty during the 90's was to target the nightvision gear on Serbian tanks.  So the Serbs have some experience being on the receving end of 20mm AMRs,

Gun action is very much classic relaxed It's Hispano-Suiza HS.804 (which was manufactured in Yugoslavia under licence), so a derivtive of pre-WW2 HS.404.

A lot of old target scopes were mounted in a way that a spring returned them to position

the old 50 caliber multiple projectile round from Vietnam for Riverine units would probably be better than any "Cannister round" in a .50.
