Nice discussion of Gepard in Ukraine:
The last #Gepards will go to #Ukraine.
The Air Defence System #Gepard 1A2 has proven itself excellently against... https://t.co/12IFyluQHR
Hopefully Germany or another country will create a modernized version using AHEAD/Proximity airburst and modern digital interface / updated radar / IRST sensors.

I don't see any discussion just GepardKomandant monologue
But here is a summary from the Katar Gepard test . lets just say if these adventures were for paying customers with the veteran crew and full industry support in what amounts to a simple range days , a hastily trained crew in Ukrainian conditions with limited field support might not be even close to how much they can actually squeeze from the Gepard .

Something new , a everything old is new again, location by sound using computer algorithms to filter the data. Unknown what kind of output comes from the system .(just a general warning system or something that actually triangulates source positions)
Ukrainian Zvook(translates - Sound) is an AI project that combines a hardware and software system capable of acoustically detecting cruise missiles, helicopters, drones and enemy fighters at low and medium altitudes. Today, about 40 Zvook units are already operating on the territory of Ukraine.

To my knowledge acoustic detection and ranging never has been gone. It has just been overshadowed by more fancy and easy to use systems like counter battery radar.
During my service time artillery units still had "Schallmesstrupps" literally acoustic or sound measuring teams. Truck mounted. These would operate close behind the frontline and send targeting data for counter battery fire. Or with COBRA or RASIT radar data available provide data to find out what echoes are artillery or tell the radars where to look.
There also has been a standard issue munition for the flare gun for that purpose. It would just rise above the treeline and generate a loud bang and bright flash. The sound detection guys could easily pick that up and use it for calibration, testing or training.
I am not sure if the measuring teams are still in existence though.
The huge advantage of this is of course that the system is 100 % passive and there is virtually no hiding from it. If artillery fires they do make noise and create a flash. I do know that in the past there also have been "pyrotechnical noise generators" to create the acoustic and optic signature for fake artillery positions.

Gunfire locators
Mandatory equipment in every ghetto in the US
And now increasingly common on armored vehicles

Reminds me of these pre-radar sound 'tubas' for hearing approaching aircraft:

I found a video published by the Bundeswehr in 2019.
So the acoustic detection and ranging is still a thing.

No exactly spectacular. Lots of talking (in German) but you can see the equipment. Which is rather traditional and looks pretty '90 to me. But it seems to work.
