Lost Dutchman State Park Is The Single Best State Park In Arizona And It’s Just Waiting To Be Explored
Arizona is home to 31 state parks, so deciding which one is your favorite can be quite the challenge. It was an easy pick for Travel + Leisure, however, which selected Lost Dutchman as the hands-down winner. A solid choice, if we do say so ourselves – the park has it all: mountains, abundant wildlife and vegetation, and some of the spookiest lore in the state. If you haven’t yet visited, this mysterious place definitely belongs on your bucket list.
Just 40 miles east of Phoenix, Lost Dutchman State Park is best known for the iconic Superstition Mountains that rise up within its borders.
You'll find the 320-acre park on North Apache Trail in Apache Junction.
The park is named after the fabled Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine, which is allegedly hidden somewhere deep in the bowels of the vast mountain range.
Each year, dozens of people come in search of the elusive buried treasure. Unfortunately, however, many of these hopefuls perish during their quest, so we discourage following in their footsteps.
An array of trails wind through the rugged desert landscape, each one showcasing the park from a slightly different perspective.
