We're all fine over here. The news that you got on the mainland made the whole thing sound about a thousand times worse than it was - like we'd sunk into the ocean or fallen of the face of the earth or something.

The worst thing that happened on Oahu (where I live in Honolulu) was that the power went out a little after it happened (about 7:15 or so) and was out all day into the night. My electricity came back up a little before 9 pm. When it came up, I turned on the tv and turned to CNN. They were running the story about the quake. Boy, did they magnify it.

When the electricity came on in my neighborhood, you could hear alot of people yelling "yay!"

My co-worker's electricity didn't come on until 3:15 this morning.

I think we ought to get solar panels to generate our electricity! We have lots of sun here.

The damage was mostly on the Big Island of Hawaii and was stuff like landslides and a sinkhole.

It was an interesting experience to see how the national news on CNN reported it and what actually happened closer to home. You really see how the media can change things. Not that they told untruths - but the reports on CNN made it look alot worse than it was.

Good afternoon,  Jeane...

But whatever the nature of the overhyping of whatever did go on/down in your neck of the woods:

I am pleased to hear/read you're alright too!

Yep, we're okay here. It does look like the Big Island of Hawaii took a pretty hard hit and there's alot of structural damage over there. But, fortuantely, no inujuries to speak of.

No, I didn't know that a quake hit Alaska! Guess we've been so absorbed in the quake that happened here, we didn't pay attention to that news.

I'm glad Oahu is as far away from the epicenter and the Big Island as it is. A 6.7 magnitude quake is pretty strong and if we'd been closer, we'd have experienced alot more than a power outage!

Seattle better watch out!
