I hate when you get so invested in the people in a book that you don't want it to end..

I agree !   Those are the books that usually find their way to my "keeper" shelves  :-)

So true!  I love my keeper books.  There are times I finish one book but I'm not quite ready to start another .. I will go for one of my keeper books.  Sometimes I don't feel like starting a new relationship with characters, I like the ones I've already met.  :-)

Exactly. As long as you leave a decent time between reads, you can enjoy it just as much, if not more, second or third time round.

It's true  --- there are some characters that I've fallen in love with over the years.  I love to read Jane Eyre although I cold probably recite the whole thing by rote these days  :-)

"Reader, I married him"...

I go through phases of re-reading certain authors. Last summer I went through a Thomas Hardy phase - the first phase was in my twenties, and I've read him sporadically since, but I just got the bug last summer and had a binge.

I do that, too on occasion.  I have a 4-book series that I just love to read .. it is so well written.  And the author has become somewhat of a mystery himself.  He wrote the four books and then disappeared.  No one has seen him since.   He supposedly wrote a 5th book... that I finally got my hands on.  I don't know who wrote it ... but it was this particular author.
