Get this, the dung beetle can't see an individual star but it CAN see the Milky Way. Our spiral galaxy. It orients itself by our galaxy pic.twitter.com/68sIhnLrtx— Jennifer Harrison (@GeneticJen) August 14, 2017
Check out the whole thread here:
So today I was talking about evolution being amazing and literally every animal being awesome and I'm told the dung beetle isn't. Thread ??— Jennifer Harrison (@GeneticJen) August 14, 2017
It's funny how we think of insects, particularly beetles in terms of common names. The Dung Beetle is a fellow most people have heard of, but do they know there are different dung beetles? Would they know how many different ones?
Take a look at this page https://bugguide.net/node/view/3670
Isn't that amazing! I've seen it stated that there are 400,000 KNOWN species of beetles with scientists estimating the real number as high as 4-8 MILLION. Mind boggling!
There are 4 beetles...John, George, Paul and Ringo. Need I say more???
Do we love them? YA YA YA!
BTW - those are Beatles.
Two dung beetles discussing their work day...
Steve: I'm PROUD of the work I accomplished today!
Carl: You are proud of pushing shit around?
Steve: Of course!
Carl: Yeah, well I am so dung with being a beetle!
I'm sorry, but yes - I had to do that
Nice list material, ask anyone! (Kidmagnet) said:
pushing shit around?
In the end, isn't that really what we all do?
