what they are famous for here in Portland is they were the first LIFT vehicles, lift equipped in the late 1970's.
the local bus company bought six of them and made them available to wheelchair using passengers in those days before lift equipped buses.
the hours were tiny-five days a week, 7 am to 5 pm per day, and the user had to phone in 3 days to a week to book an appointment for a ride.
Drivers were senior bus drivers who wanted to try something new.
My mother who because quadriplegic in 1976 was an early rider of these ancestral LIFT vehicles who had a capacity of one wheelchair using passenger.
eventually some were built with capacity of two.
Current LIFT vehicles have capacity up to five wheelchair users and six ambulatory passengers.
They are now built by Chevy, Ford and GMC and not Mercedes Benz any more.
