Many people don't know or care about the privacy they give up when they use things like this. The makers of them also sell their data to third parties. They can also get hacked very easily and become part of a bot net. I won't ever buy anything that peers into my private life no matter what they says it does Not even if it cooks my meals and washes my clothes.

I won't be getting any either that I can avoid but that is what is coming so staying informed is imperative.
Most of the hacking issues would go away if people wouldn't leave things (including routers) with the default settings.
Example:

Also get an updatable router where the mfr's newer software can be installed...if deemed safe.
