He thought he was cool.  That donkey was giving him stink eye and didn't want him near the goats.

Yea, the goats were in one area and the donkey was in another.  He eyeballed Carlo and ran to protect his goats.

Donkeys are great livestock protectors and can kill attackers like wolves and coyotes.  Goats are known to be afraid of dogs, so he was probably letting his herd known he had their back.

Their hooves and bite are the most dangerous.  Lot of ranchers use donkeys to protect their horse foals.  I think they can even cow kick (kick sideways from their body) not just back kick.
