As far as I know they are not forked, a term used to describe something that ends in two parts. They are flat and curve to form a tube.
I'd have to do more reading though. A couple years ago I learned that butterflies emerge with a "forked" proboscis. It's actually in two pieces and after it emerges from the chrysalis a butterfly has to flap it's wings to fully unfurl them before they dry and rapidly extend and curl; (over and over) it's two pieced proboscis in order to "zipper" it together and form the tube that is so familiar.
