What is the difference if the voting machine prints the voting results to a file or to a file that gets printed?

I think all this is motivated by manufacturers of voting machines that print.

voting machines don't work in English. They work in ASCII. In order to print the results the system still has to create a file that gets printed. The file can still be read almost as easy as the paper.

If the voting machine can be "hacked" it can be altered to print and report modified ressulte, so it doesn't matter if the results are printed.ss
