I'm not sure I agree with this, but it's certainly one point of view. The focus of the story is that the victim's statement had no place in the courtroom, that victim impact statements are contrary to our justice system, where guilt & sentencing should be based on facts that were presented in the trial, and that's all.

The East Bay Times reports that "at least 10 prospective jurors" refused to participate in Judge Aaron Persky's next trial in protest at the cozy 6-month sentence ( out in 12 weeks) he gave Stanford rapist Brock Turner.

Brock Turner's claims to judge contradicted in new documents
Judge Aaron Persky said he took Brock Turner "at his word" last week when he sentenced the onetime Stanford University swimming star on charges that he sexually assaulted a woman on campus. Turner said he thought he was having consensual sex with the victim, even though she was unconscious when he was caught on top of her behind a dumpster.

Stanford case juror to judge: Shame on you
A juror who helped convict former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner in a sex assault case was "absolutely shocked and appalled" by the sentence, according to the Palo Alto Weekly. The male juror, who requested anonymity to protect his privacy, delivered a letter to Santa Clara County Judge Aaron Persky on Saturday, the paper reported.
