My feeble attempt at using a pun to recap the Derby:
After race, there was much aggravation
When two jockeys lodged their accusation.
Bettors then feared the worst
Horse was DQ’d from first;
It became a no-win situation.
I hear what you say GoForGin
But Country House did get the win
He got first place cash
Due to the near crash
While others rue what might have been
There was a lady from Nantucket
Brought here money to the track in a bucket
She bet the number seven to win
The DQ got under her skin
So she said ~ what the hell. Go Vagit.
The Churchill stewards once lived in obscurity
Until the winner showed his immaturity.
Ruling pissed off Mister West;
Felt the track’s bettor’s unrest.
As they left, needed maximum security.
Okay, what have you guys been drinking? Lol
Well, tonight it was a Gin (of course!) and Tonic!
Of course! Stupid me, it's right there in your name!
Oddly enough, the “Gin” in GoForGin refers to the card game, Gin Rummy. I’m a fan of the game, as well as the juniper-berry spirit. Easy choice for me in the ‘94 Derby ... good old Nick Zito ...
1994 Derby —> Holy Bull was the wise guy pick. GFG led wire to wire ... no wonder I liked MS this year. Very similar horses ...
Gin relished the sloppy going that day. Also, my sister loves Gin Rummy. My family played it a lot many years ago. She is the only one that still plays with her buddies. Actually, we are the only surviving members of our original family of five, but she always was the one pushing for us to play.
