The Pat O'Brien stakes has always been one of my faves.  This stakes also taught me a very important handicapping lesson.   Horses that win this race, in general, are 7f specialists.  True, sometimes a 6f horse will stretch out and win it....and same as a miler.   This is the reason, why I always look at a horse record "at the distance" in the DRF.    I also, look at the "at the track"  record too -- sleeping in your own bed can be a catalyst to winning a big race.
