Dec-30
I had purchased a share of this horse back in 2014. Got to meet him in his stall in 2015 at Tampa Bay Downs. Ran decent enough on dirt (was second to Coal Front and Imperial Hint in some maiden tries), but I thought he'd be a turf sprinter who'd get better with age. Trainer insisted on running on dirt and he kept cashing checks, even though his best performance had been at Kentucky Downs.
He eventually broke his maiden in a claiming race, but couldn't find the winner's circle again with us. An injury later, our group was out of money, so we had to give him away to the vet near the end of 2018. After recuperating and finding his way to a new trainer, Faction Cat went on to win 6 starts on the turf sprinting five furlongs. He defeated Extravagant Kid along the way, who was a tough luck 4th in this year's BC Turf Sprint while 6-8 wide.
Back in February, Faction Cat posted the second highest Beyer Speed Figure on turf in all of 2020, bested only by Factor This.
