SAM Davis Stakes T Bay Downs 2/6/21 race 11 : 8.5 f  Derby Prep

10/1 Candy Man Rocket #9  A4, Candy Ride/ Forestry  Has the best Pedigree imo to

get 10f Derby distance if he has the talent from this group to make the field.

others that will be tough in this race : #1 Hidden Stash 10/1, #3 Known Agenda 6-1,

# 8 Nova Rags 4-1, also a rookie Sire has one in here #5 Smiley Sbotka  3-1

I don't have a pick in here at this distance with these lightly raced 3 Yr olds

I, too, thought that Candy Man Rocket had the best pedigree.....I'm hoping he runs well.  I am also interested in seeing how Runway Magic and Smiley run; I will be including them in my bets.

race 8 Withers S. G3  9f dirt
I don't see anybody in here that jumps out at me for the Derby,
Numbers 2,  3,  5,  7, look like contenders for this race
Pletchers number 6 is a one million dollar purchase.

Interesting that Johnny V steps off the unknown potential of Candy Man to ride the already-shown limited Known Agenda.....is this a favor for Pletch?  Or did Todd explain that the horse has improved markedly and can be a contender in TC?  Or was Johnny already sure of the limits of Candy Man?

I looked closer at the Withers and Capo Kane is my pick, with the Street Sense/ Hard Spun nick

and all of that Stamina in the pedigree and in 2007 Derby Street Sense and Hard Spun were my

1 and 2 picks in December of there 2 yr old season. It would be a Crime  if I didn't pick him.

I have no opinion on this Musical Chair scenario today !

Maybe it had something to do with Jr Alvarado and Mott.

The owner of Known Agenda is/has partnered with Mike Repole and both have Pletcher/Johnny Vee for the most part as their prime 1st call trainer and jockey.  Vino Rosso winner BC Classic was the last partnership of the two lifetime friends- owners with Pletcher; yet Irad Ortiz Jr as jockey then.

JV was jock for Vino but owners had to respect his 1st call by connections on 3 yr great Code of Honor for that BC Classic . Code of Honor had ran  2nd Derby/winner Travers.

Historically Todd Pletcher and JV tandemed this early Derby pointer test.

The field appears ripe for a vertical exotic. A/B/all/all. Then move B to 3rd and 4th holes.
