smartyslew said...

Its been years since I talked about Classicity that I learned from

Romans and used it with the Conduit Mare Profiles and Chats with Bill Lathrop

and mix in the Flows Of Excellence of the South American breeders

that was part of the guy that Bred Ribot used,  I forget his name and his Software is used

by Breeders and Cappers and he is Italian. a good mix of pedigree angles imo.

Yes, Tesio as Tex noted.

Something many do not know, but it's what Kerry Thomas picked up on when he started doing emotional conformation of horses, its not just about physical conformation or pedigree or race record.

Tom Smith had a similar gift.  That's why he knew he had to have Seabiscuit after watching his maiden race at Suffolk.  Raggedy, neglected, and mostly losing races.   But Smith saw his *SPIRIT*.  His confidence , and that the horse had a natural born leadership quality.   Absolutely nothing to do with his race record, conformation (which was pitiful) or pedigree.  Smith had been around horses his entire life and he "knew that look".

This is why I always say that brisnet's idea of Class isn't same as mine.   I believe I coined this (in my own clumsy words):   "Class is more about what a horse thinks of himself."     I saw that in Animal Kingdom as he stepped out onto the track before his KY Derby, like Zenyatta, he stood there confidently, sort of "surveying" his kingdom.    Its real obvious in dogs, and humans, too.  That spirit.  (not to be mistaken with ego, smugness, braggardly, boistrous, etc.  ) .

I remember Watchmaker back in 2012 (stopped looking at his stuff then) but during one of the BC days he didn't have even ONE winner.   Just like so man who knew Beyer couldn't physically cap a horse if you took him to the track, without his *data*.   (and I can give the names of those who knew this)

Unfortunately, horse players, with the advent of AWDs and computers, don't go to the track in person. So they can't pick up on those things most of the time.

Anyway, backstory on Tesio.  He made champions out of horses with unfashionable pedigrees:
The late Federico Tesio, a world-renowned owner, breeder and trainer of thoroughbred racehorses, was keenly aware of the importance of Emotional Conformation in the equine athlete and he spent hour upon hour at auctions studying the physical and Emotional Conformation of the horses he planned to purchase.

Tesio knew how to embrace the magic within the spirit of the horse. He was known for his ability to purchase horses with unfashionable pedigrees for his bloodstock program and turn their produce into champion Thoroughbreds. Tesio knew that a horse “wins with his character” and that, in addition to pedigrees and bloodlines, Emotional Conformation is the final piece of the breeding puzzle needed to produce a champion.

And Tesio was good at that. He bred and trained and incredible 22 Italiano Derby winners. His champions Nearco and Ribot are legends of the turf.

So Forte lands in the 1 hole…. Lol this could be an interesting race to watch. Do we figure Irad fouling in the stretch into our handicapping. Arcangelo draws the short straw and is just outside him in the 2 hole. Hopefully National Treasure runs a decent pace and Arcangelo is a few lengths in front of Forte by the time they turn for home. That’s what Arcangelo’s cruising speed says in his works and in his races.

What do you think of 77 days off for Arcangelo and National Treasure

for this race . No prep since The  Belmont. Arrogate had 23 days off after 4 races,

3 race winning streak, same as Arcangelo, who has 5 works and Forte, Disarm and

Scotland  only 3 with a race at the spa, a big deal for some cappers over the years

for this race. Arrogate didn't race at the spa before his win.

I like Arcangelo in this race . Nothing has changed from Belmont to the Travers. He's been working fantastic coming up to the race. Scotland is a nice horse. I'd like to have a reason to put on my kilt , drink some Geniuses, and cheer Scotland home . ( Scotch Irish) I just don't see him winning.  I do see him with National Treasure, and Mage as a good bet for second.

Thanks for responding, Do you have any scenario  for the Win besides

Arc, like the 3 you listed for 2nd place or Arc is it?

I am not crazy for the Morning Line i think Repole made it

I see to  many scenarios for this good field, And I'm sure I will go with

value at race time and keep my emotions out of it.

At these odds I think the Whales are going after Mage in my opinion

and that can change by race time. And that is what I'm hoping for.

Of course I might not be right about Arcangelo. He could get trapped on the rail if he breaks badly. I can see the jocks trying to trap Forte on the rail and I’d hate for Arcangelo to get caught up in that. The stewards at Saratoga haven’t done anything to punish race riding and many of the races are turning into a free for all in the stretch.
