More fun stuff. Here is the data for the final 1/16 mile of the race.   He was running 44 MPH while nobody else was close.  And despite a "ground saving" trip he ran farther than most of the field just from coming out of the 20 hole and having to weave through and around traffic so much.

It's amazing that a mare born in Manitoba, Canada would 1-end up joining the Calumet Farm broodmare band 2-produce a Kentucky Derby winner!  Even up here at Woodbine we don't get a lot of Manitoba-breds in our races as they usually aren't good enough for our competition.  She was a huge exception.

Good stuff Tex.

Sovereign, he is RAN-RAN.  His next gen back is RAN/ND-RAN/ND.  Go back another one and he’s RAN/ND/ND/T2-RAN/T2/ND/RAN.

He was on horse #21 but post 20.  The gate only has 20 stalls...

I don't call a horse that is near the front in under a 1:11 3/4 a "closer", even if he was off the lead by a second at the half.

And I agree wholeheartedly that the race was reminiscent of cheap speed from the old days.  Perhaps it will return with the UAE Derby qualifiers racing against a weaker field combined with having an abundance of speed.  It seems that horses coming to CD via that route continue to have issues adapting.

1st Video all races Derby winner.

1. It confirms why Dogs tossed him using PPs. Colt had raced against Derby runners.

This was fantastic, Dogs, thanks for posting!

After watching, this colt had a lot of experience rail-riding, and quite effectively.  The Derby was the first race with so much speed, and going so long, and leaving a huge hole on the inside.  Much conspired to give this brave colt the opportunity to shock the world!

More about "a jockeys race means" the PPs say the jockeys skills should help in decision making and skill sets "at large.'

Mind that Bird for example is a great example. Mr Railing..Cal Borel-borail skills amongst the At Large skill sets.

And in the prior years there were stick out, even triple crowners, or win 1st 2 legs/ C Chrome. Never mentioned it's a jockeys race .what? 10 or more years

Mind that Bird was 2 yr old Canadian champ and placed 2nd in Sunland when they counted $ earned. And Mine that Bird went on to bring home checks.

OUT On a Limb.

I don't think Derby winner's* chances of winning Preak are good. In that the composite jock skills know his style. And just a bit shorter.

I know Mine that Bird..and this colt is not

* notice Dogs has not called him by name.

Walk-on horse has had his good day

Yet I might be middling myself as I used and said Tiz the Bomb coming to Derby was grass to plastic to win same way from same last track as Animal Kungdom...and the Derby winner was beat in the last race by bomb. And beat by fav etc

Also may be horse for the course

Let's add trainer after Kdy race said that colt's jockey in prior race said the colt has got it now, knows what to do.

Maybe the biting after race says it even more .

So the over under is (I'll have) another Animal Kingdom or where like a Belmont winner like D-Tara couldn't beat $39K runners in the nexts

Taking the Under
