I don’t think Early Voting drifted out so much as J Ortiz steered him out there to get in front of Secret Oath and Creative Minister, who were closest at the time. After which, he “drifted” back in the put himself in front of the next one to pursue him (Epicenter). Looked more like intent than mere drifting to me.

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn't heard about the bleeding, and as ChiefsCrown pointed out, he was still being ridden pretty hard. Maybe JV didn't notice until after the race. It reminds me of Catholic Boy in the Florida Derby. Irad continued to run him hard to the wire, even though he bled. It wasn't until much later that I heard about that, when he was preparing for the Pennine Ridge on the turf.

I watched the post-race jockey interviews.  JV seemed totally unaware that Simplification had a problem, or didn't mention it, so you are probably right
