McPeek is my new favorite trainer.....had the courage to be the only trainer to NOT use Lasix in the 8th at Fairgrounds today, and dispensed of the big favorite Banishing (off the board) easily with Denington. I hit the exacta, tri, and super and am extremely happy, especially at 8-1!
Don't know if he's good enough to compete in the preps, but Lanerie's ride was patient, and who knows, maybe he'll be good enough to hit the board in the LA Derby, if he goes...

I knew McPeek from Oaklawn and had written many times in the past how he didn't lasix his 2 year olds. That was a pattern he kept to for quite a number of years that I have commented on. However, that no longer seems to be the case. McPeek has good years and bad years, I think he is someone who is still learning (as we all are) because things do change. I'm not sure this is one of his "good years" though. It hasn't been for Asmussen either, at least not at Oaklawn, but he tends to bring in the heavy artillery the last 1.5 months of the meet, and his numbers go up.
