Works:

1/7 5F

1/14 5F

1/21 5F

1/28 ran in the Southwest Stakes

2/13 3F

Took him 16 days after SW Stakes to put in a work, and only a 3F at that.

.And its now it's 2/24, and no works since that tiny 3F on 2/13.   ... and trainer name hasn't been transferred.

I'd say either very odd, or put a fork in him?

he could be on the move to another trainer

smartyslew said...

he could be on the move to another trainer

Good point..........but that doesn't mean a break in his training, which is critical at this point.  While the humans are rearranging the deck chairs, a horse on the Derby Trail can't miss works, and can't take 15+ days off after a graded stakes race.

Last work 2/13, last race 1/28 today 2/24 nothing happened  maybe both happened

4 days to go for Beta. This is what you said in the moment "a horse on the Derby Trail can't miss works, and can't take 15+ days off after a graded stakes race".

I don't think this came out the way you meant it !

maybe he went on the move  2/18 or 19 I don't know

Gee I hope I saved somebody a Futures wager on this one.

I don't have a timestamp on this announcement that he's off the trail.  I thought it would happen, but was it announced Before or After the Future Pool 5 closed?

By the way, do people not even pay attention to what barns say or to workouts?  I meant it when I said you can't take 16 days off from even working out after a VERY short route stakes race in March if you're going to run a G1 and the biggest race of your life.   I meant that.

(Before the other race McG said (publically) that General Jim was having a "small setback"......and he did, indeed, scratch. In trainer speak, they're always described as "minor" or "small"..............let's face it not many horses are great champions like Big Brown who ran on 1/2 a hoof........setbacks are something I look at very seriously along the Trail....missed days and works, esp. now in March/April.......look carefully and worry a little, at least, that's what I do)

I don't know why you  are quoting the SA work to me after the fact.

The post I made about the very obvious and odd work patterns was around 3/2-3/5, at which point the horse already HAD a rather serious "break" in his training schedule , after a very short route race in February............which is WHY I posted it in the first place.

All you're showing me now is what they did on 3/9 after that, to try to "fix it".   IMHO, the problem had already occured.

Obviously, I guess it didn't fix whatever it was that needed fixing.

Please understand that you and I may handicap TC differently.   I look for any setbacks leading up to the race.......because of the nature of the TC races in general.   You need a horse who has a well laid out campaign, with as few "bumps in the road" as possible.   And bumps are a worry.  To me and to their connections, despite they like to make it sound like it wasn't anything.

My red flags will not change.

Also can anyone answer:   Again, what is the time stamp on the annoucement?   AFTER they took in all that futures money? Or before?

The tweet from CD announcing he was suspended from the pool was at 1PM ET.

So they took money for him all day Friday and Saturday... and the pool I believe reopened at noon today so I don't know if they had already suspended him before opening.
