UTR horses could be colts that actually have the points to make the race, that no one is talking about seriously OR can be horses yet to enter a prep. It's the latter I have started this thread to consider, as I find that more interesting.
I search for UTR horses out of stables who are strategic (Cox, primarily), or those with trainers that like to take chances to see what they've got. So for example, McPeek has Mendelssohns March, a Mendelssohn colt out of Galileo mare. Two races, both on Lasix and two turns, first one on turf, second on in the slop, undefeated.....could he be entered in the Ark Derby? McPeek? Of course!
Then I think about Asmussen....who is he most enthusiastic about getting him a Derby win? Red Route One? Shopper's Revenge? Or the highly acclaimed runner from the summer, with a little refresher under his belt, possibly pointed to the Ark. Derby.....Disarm?
And finally, Cox.....with a colt that underwhelmed in the summer on dirt, moved to all weather at Turfway, and has only won, now working well, in preparation for the Jeff Ruby, Wadsworth.
So, those are my UTR horses (Mendelssohns March, Disarm, and Wadsworth).....who are yours?

Skinner: closer needs more real estate. Victor Espinoza needs rating Skinner for more yardage Derby distance.....
I Don't Get It: ...same connections as I'll Have Another + Nyquist.
Both should go Santa Anita Derby....
Skinner over I D G I in finish

Smart idea and precisely WHY I went to find the Oaks and Derby nominated horses for 2023.
To see who is nominated. Many horses are not on the leaderboard yet.
Find some pedigrees you like or trainers or breeders or whatnot.......and figure out if they will be up n' coming soon. It's getting a bit late but those 1-1/8 races starting up now. Many have been "hiding".
GL.
I don't have any yet. I really think Gun Runner got robbed so in a way I'm hoping Asmussen has one up his sleeve, so he can finally get his VERY ELUSIVE KY Derby win. It's hard to believe he's won everything there is to win.....except this race!!!
I would like to say hope a Japanese horse wins but I save them for the BELMONT. The KY Derby requires a kind of speed they don't seem to train for, not sure about that but we are hot n' heavy on bursting out of the gates and going full bore.
Some who I expected might come like Advance Pharoah, Cupidon, Curren Alcantara(JPN) haven't raced lately----others like Derma Sotogake, Continuar seems like they would rather take a shot at the big money races in Dubai. (the The Hyacinth afterwards hasn't attracted many horses to our derby) So we gotta wait til Fukuryu Stakes 3/25 or UAE Derby 3/25 completes.
Interesting you chose McPeek. McPeek has B Minor, did zilch. ESCAPOLOGIST took 6 tries to break his maiden. Ditto, Seeking Unity. We already know about FROSTED DEPARTURE . Ten Days later hasn't raced since washing out in the Smarty Jones Stakes. There's Hayes Strike, who can't win a stakes race. but is entered in a non graded again this weekend at Laurel. There's Hoosier Philly, okay. (not overly impressed w/that one so far). Mad Hustle remains unraced. MAYFIELD STRONG who hasn't raced since 9/22. So who do you think McPeek is *hiding*? MENDELSSOHNS MARCH should go over to Dubai and race in the UAE (IMHO).
So basically, McPeek's chances (from my perspective) are riding on Hoosier Philly, Denington, or Sun Thunder.
I thought Emperor's Appeal was a nice horse that Lynch has, but he hasn't run in any stakes races. I still like Desormeaux's Single Ruler and Confidence Game. Would like to see Worthington run again. Also like Bromley, Scoobie, Slip Mahoney (but not for the win) , a few others.
Will look at more later, but thanks for the good topic!! As of today I have no under the radar horses, my last one was Scoobie Quando and I haven't come up with any more since them.
BTW, I would plan on a Ark Derby muddy track. Weather looks like it's going to start raining again next weekend

BTW McPeek's Hayes Strike running today, 3/18 over at Laurel in R9. 7/2 odds
Along with HowGreatIsNate......that horse who ran the entire Gotham w/out a rider after he dumped Acosta. So anyone wondering just how greatisnate, I guess we'll know more now. (4-1)
Brittany Rusell's Circling the Drain is running at 6-1. I kinda like this one.

And your McPeek Haye's Strike won his first stakes race 1-1/16 at 8-1
I put a win bet on him (and circling the drain) hope you did too
6 | $18.20 | $7.20 | $3.80 |

Speaking of under the radar horses, you had one before you started the topic, back when the SW stakes was run. Sun Thunder. I think way back when the SW Stakes was run, Sun Thunder was not quite ready....but I think he is coming into clearer view now, as a logical contender. You probably remember our conversation at the time, I really did not like him for Oaklawn at that time, for that race, at that track, but you pleaded your case for him, and I'm glad you did. Hope he does well in the Louisiana Derby if you still like him. I suspect he is further developed by now and FG is a completely different track (though not one I am very familiar with).

Didn't notice this race, thanks for bringing my attention to it.....very impressive race! How Great got caught early steady, will watch him next out.

I would have given you a heads up in advance had I known, but I didn't, I got a notifcation on a different horse on that track's card and would not have noticed it myself if I didn't add that track to my twinspires at the moment I did, which was pretty late in the day already, and very last minute.

Race 6 Fairgrounds today all on Lasix
