$1,250,000  100-40-30-20-10

The complete field for the Arkansas Derby from the rail with riders is:

Bourbon Bash, Mickaelle Michel; Interlock Empire, David Cabrera; Harlocap, Ricardo Santana Jr.; Two Eagles River, Nik Juarez; Airtime, Cristian Torres; Angel of Empire, Flavien Prat; Rocket Can, Junior Alvarado; Reincarnate, John Velazquez; King Russell, Rafael Bejarano; Red Route One, Tyler Gaffalione; and Kolomio, James Graham

I really thought this would be a larger field than just 11 horses, figuring more would go here to avoid Forte in the FL Derby, but Forte drew post #11 so he may not win as easily as planned.

Eleven is pretty nice, all things considered.  JMO.

Heck of a nice purse, too.

Should be a good race.  I am liking Reincarnate, I re-watched his last, had a lot of trouble at several points, never gave up.  I think he will be more forwardly placed if we get a fast track.  I think Two Eagles and Harlocap go for the lead, could stay, though Reincarnate may press.  My bomb will be King Russell coming from behind, will probably key in 3rd for the tri, also a few tickets with him in 2nd.

Surprised to see Angel of Empire fourth in the ML. The 3 in front of him did not win their last out.

Along the lines of approx 77% of KY Derby winners are bred in KY, there are 2 in the AR Derby who were not.

Kolomio  Bred in NY

Angel of Empire Bred in PA

Pennsylvania (won: Smarty Jones, Lil E. Tee)
New York (won, made the gate or were nominated:
Funnycide, Shipsational, Golden Code, Un Ojo)

I usually hope that certain horses make the gate that I would not bet to win the derby, so that it makes my handicapping job easier when I have to cap the final 20 horses after they make the gate I guess.  Of course, that's just lazy, since a horse who runs ITM in the Derby can be droopped in any state at any breeding farm.  Both of these are lasixed as well.  Most of the horses in the AR Derby are, except for Red Route One, Rocket Can, and Reincarnate.

I would except I haven't handicapped the race yet, only got the PPs an hour ago, and I will mention that Two Eagles River is very fast and likes this track.........and also like Churchill Downs.

Weather report:  though it rains here what seems like CONSTANTLY, it looks like it will rain on Thursday AND Friday, but sunny on Sat.   Friday will be breezy so I expect the track will be plenty dry by the time the AR Derby runs.

I was hoping for slop myself, but oh well.
